Downsize Comments

I just tried Downsize for the first time.

I like its simplicity, but I have some thoughts.

I think there should be some indication of what the resulting file size will be when you set the parameters for resizing.
The Preview Window only shows you dimensions, but let's say I have 5 photos, and I want to make them small enough to attach to one e-mail, and I know my e-mail has a 2 MB attachment limit... I have no way of knowing whether I'm making the photos small enough until after I process the images and check their size in the Finder.

EasyBatchPhoto has a size limit cap that can be manually set, but I think just having some idea of how many K the resized image would be is fine. Like when you e-mail a photo from iPhoto, and it gives you the Small/Medium/Large option, telling you exactly how many K the photo will be at each setting.

Question: What determines the processed image's ppi? Can I control that?

Also, when I am previewing a image for resizing, and I alter either the Max Width or Max Height numbers, the preview will not automatically resize until I hit the RETURN key. I wish it would accept the number once I was finished typing it and resize the preview automatically.

BTW, I've been a user and supporter of Overflow for YEARS. Love it love it love it!

    Hi Dean,

We are currently working on the next major revision of Downsize (still too early to say when it will be released). I can tell you though that the new version will have file size previews (okay, I shouldn't say will, but it's very very likely).

The processed images ppi is always 72 as that is the standard for screen resolution. There is no way to control that setting. Can I ask why you are interested in having other settings? It's always something we can think about for the next version.

The image preview certainly should update when you press enter in that field. I will look into that.

Thanks - I'm glad you enjoy using Overflow!
