Customising Invoice Templates

Hi,
I'm new to On The Job but would like to create a custom invoice template for myself. I can't find much instructions about it but I figured its a PDF or an image for the background design elements and the provided tags for the data? I realised a bug that the thumbnail for the image seems to be upside down? Guess that needs to be sorted out?

Could we also have a feature to have different backgrounds on the first page and the other pages? Especially since design elements can't be added in the template editor. For example, having a design element behind the invoice total on the first page and not needing it on the other pages.

It would be great if you made the template editor accessible without creating an invoice and the ability to customise the number of entries for testing. It would just be a perk for designers but I don't think its a priority.

    Hi Hector,

Do you have an example PFD you could send me that's showing up upside-down? I had thought we had solved that problem, but it sounds like there's still an issue there.

I like the idea of allowing different background PDFs for the first and other pages. You might be able to achieve what you need with an image element, which can also be a PDF, but it's hard to say without knowing exactly what you need.

It would be nice to not have a template editor available without having to create an actual invoice - thanks for the suggestion.

I've just attached a basic pdf. The image loads fine on the actual invoice, its just the thumbnail preview on the left that shows it upside down.

With the pdf I've attached. I would like to have the total payable amount on the blue area. But since the total amount doesn't need to appear on subsequent pages, it would need another background. That would be the usefulness of multiple backgrounds, making the invoices look more professional.

    Hi,

    Thanks for sending the file.

If you just need that blue shape on the first page only - you should be able to achieve that using a rounded rectangle right in On The Job's invoice template editor. See the attached screenshot. Just make sure you check the "First page only" checkbox for both the shape object and the total cost object.

Thanks. I created that PDF just to try things out. Didn't know that I could graphical elements in the template editor. But the thumbnail is still appearing upside down so I guess thats the bug.

Yep - we'll be looking at the upside-down bug, I just thought I'd mention the shapes thing in case it was useful for you.

    Hi sev,

It's not possible to bring back any invoice template (other than Classic) without completely resetting On The Job.

There is one folder and one file that you will need to delete. They are:

    ~/Library/Application Support/On The Job 3

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.stuntsoftware.onthejob3.plist

Where the "~" indicates your home folder. Starting with OS X Lion, the Library folder is hidden, but can be opened most easily from the Finder by holding the option key and looking under the Go menu.

Quit On The Job, delete those items, and restart to fully reset.

I would like "Invoice - continued" to appear only on "other pages" (not the First Page) in the Classic Template. Is that possible? Thanks in advance, David

    David,

It is not possible to have items appear only on other pages - not a bad idea though!
