Have an option to set the default period for Due Date

At the moment, the default Due Date on an invoice is "the end of the month after the month the invoice was created in". I'm sure that for people working in certain industries, this would be useful, but for what I do, it's not particularly helpful.

What I would like (and I imagine this would cover the majority of your users) would be an App-wide setting that sets the default Due Date period in either days, weeks or months. Almost every time I write an invoice, I forget to change the Due Date, and then I have to go back and re-create the invoice, setting the Due Date manually, which is time consuming and tedious.

I think you're right - it would make sense to have that as a user-definiable amount of time. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Hi,

I would love to buy this program if this feature were implemented... are you working on it, or is it not scheduled to the next update?

    Stephan,

We have a policy of not pre-announcing features or release dates of new versions, since those things are always likely to change (and always seem to when we publicly announce something!).

Sorry I can't be of more help. My advice is always to purchase On The Job based on what it's current capabilities are. That said, we certainly do have plans for updates and enhancements in the future, I don't want to give the impression that we are not working on things.

I second the ability to change the default due date time period. I came here thinking there was already an option in the software I was just missing. With my clients I tend to use a two week time period, and having to remember to change this each time is a pain. I'm getting better at remembering to change it, but I have had to re-invoice clients before, and that really doesn't look professional. Thanks for a great product. Simple to use and easy to change the template designs. Looking forward to the improvements.

Ditto. I keep forgetting to change it because my previous invoicing app allowed me to set a default due date by client and I never had to think about it. Invoices going out with an incorrect due date can interfere very badly with cashflow or looks unprofessional if the date is corrected later.

This is something I sorely miss from the previous app I used, along with being able to show jobs as invoiced. It would be great to see both of these addressed soon as the rest of On The Job is great - especially the invoice templating.

Me too! I would actually like to be able to set default terms for due date individually by client - perhaps there could be an app-wide default as well for populating this field when a new client is created?

That said, I LOVE OTJ! A much cleaner and more logical, Mac-like interface than my previous 3 apps. And, I was able to customize my invoice templates much more attractively than ever before.

I agree! That is definitely a feature that will come in very handy! That would actually be my only complaint about On The Job, otherwise, I love it!

This has been in the discussion for a long time, is it a feature yet?? I really want the default due date to be 30 days from the invoice creation date.

I just keep forgetting to change the due date and my client is getting away with paying me for way too long!! When it's "my fault" for putting the wrong due date on, all I can do is curse the software!

Please make it possible to set the default for 30 days from the invoice creation date.
    Thank you!

I now consider On The Job to be abandonware - features like this are incredibly important for actual regular use of the app, and yet 18 months after I posted this discussion nothing has happened. I'll continue to use it for now, but as soon as I find something better, I'll change over without giving it a second thought.

To those of you using Postbox (v. 2) as your desktop email client, you can send your invoice to Postbox as an attachment via "print". Just create an invoice in On the Job, choose "print", and under PDF on the bottom left side of the print dialog box choose "Mail PDF with Postbox". This will attach your invoice as is to the email. The only downside is that the title of your invoice document defaults to "On the Job.pdf". Not really that big of a deal i.m.o, but might be for some of you.

I really hope there's some development still going on with this app. It's still awesome, but is beginning to lag behind and is in need of a refresh.
