Client-Folder / Calendar-Year-Tally Feature Request
Hi there.
First off I LOVE OTJ, and use it daily. I think it is THE best time tracking software available, bar none.
I only have one issue that pokes at my brain, and that is the lack of a folder or archive system for older clients.
Although I rarely am doing work for them, I don't want to delete them, as I still need their invoices and other info for tax purposes, and yet my client window is rather full! It can be hard to sort through and find the right people at a glance. Is there a reason that folders are not an option there? It would really make sense for my workflow, though maybe I'm just a nutcase.
While we are at it, I have another idea, but I know this is much more involved. It would be amazing if there was a way to tally up paid invoices sent to clients within a given time period. What I mean to say is, it would be great to get a breakdown by client (as well as total for all clients) within a given calendar year. This would make my taxes a BREEZE, though I don't know how hard this would be to implement.

Thanks for your suggestions, I think both are good ones. Archiving of some kind is definitely a must, and it's something we've been thinking a lot about.

In the old version you used to be able to tally simply by having a master folder that all clients /job could be housed in. I had a folder called 2010 and then inside that I had each client with their jobs. Simply clicking on the folder 2010 gave me the tally amount for the year. This ability seems gone and I'm not sure you can do it anymore, especially if you have different rates you charge for different clients?

Mary Kate: You've kind of hit the nail on the head there - the problem is not just different rates, but the fact that clients can have different currencies, which makes getting a single total much more difficult.
That said, we're working on some ideas for reporting features for a future update.

Another vote for client folders! I have lots of one time customers that I need on file, and I don't want to overpopulate my clients list.. Client folders would be an awesome way to organize my clients!

I've in the past been using iRatchet but thats basically dead and OTJ seems to be the best and most productive software to replace it but the lack of folders and some general "per timeframe" reporting for taxes etc removes some serious use for it for professionals
