Generating Reports

Hello,

I have been using On The Job since 2005 and love it! The only problem is generating reports. Each year I am forced to use Excel (gag) or another spreadsheet document to create income/expense reports for taxes. It seems redundant to re-enter everything when I should be able to simply export the data from On The Job. Is this a feature you are looking to add? If so, how long before we can see it?

There are other time tracking options that offers the ability to export reports. I hate to "switch teams" before I check with you first.

Thank you!

    Hi Sarah,

Reports are definitely something we'd like to add to On The Job in the future. We'd love to hear more about specifically what you'd like to see!

Dan, thank you for your reply!

Mostly, I would like to be able to export my income/billings month by month. I'd also like to be able to export my expenses monthly as well. A lot of the other time tracking software also allows you to be able to track whether or not a bill has been paid. That isn't AS important to me, but it would be a bonus!

I love how easy your software is to manage. It is a piece of cake to open a new job and I can easily modify the time if I need to. Exporting the invoice is great too. I have been using a trial of Billings and it is Ok, but it is overly complicated as far as I am concerned. They have the jobs organized by client and then project and then "slips" under each project. I don't need all of that. I am a graphic designer, and often have many tasks for each project I work on, but I just don't need that many steps to track one job. I would rather spend my time doing billable work rather than taking so much time just to set the project up to track!

Another thing I like so much about On The Job compared to some of the other software is the easy to find "play" button (for lack of a better word). You would be surprised how some of the other companies bury the time starter button.

I am so excited to know that you are considering adding Reports to your software. Since I have vowed to never open Excel again, the sooner the better as far as I am concerned!

    Thank you,
    Sarah

    Hi Dan,

I'd just like to chime in on this thread with a couple suggestions for reports:

    • As indicated, financials for taxes. Itemized totals for time billed, fixed costs, quantity, mileage, summarized by year, or broken down by month.

Note: this gets tricky because it looks like many of us are using negative fixed costs to provide discounts on billed time. This is where "negative billed time" would come in handy: it would reduce the total billed time, without showing up as a separate negative expense.

    •  Hours billed by day, week, or month. I see this as useful for monitoring one's own or staff performance.

    • A report of all balances owing by client, broken down by invoice & showing days overdue.

    Thanks. :)

Just to chime in as well, client statements are a must! I like to send statements to my clients as reminders of what's owed. Also, it's a nice way of saying, "Pay me", without being overbearing. The only reason I am leaning towards Billings is because of the extra report features.

I agree, it is tedious to set a job up, as every line item is it's own slip On The Job's ease of use is unsurpassed, so if account summaries, statements and similar reports are available as a built in feature, On The Job would blow away every other invoicing software.

Hi there, me too. Just a basic report showing invoices and total for certain periods for tax. I downloaded the trial and I have decided against using this for just that reason.
I currently use Totals for invoicing which has basic reporting and Time Edition for tracking time. I would prefer to use one program, namely yours, so please let me know when you have or when you plan to integrate reporting into your software. Thanks, Kate

Possibly not the best place to add this but possibly not worthy of another thread:

A suggestion - as you have lots of different views on what you should add... is it feasible to create "plugins"? This way those with simpler requirements could enjoy the simplicity (which I like) while others add more functionality as required/needs grow (which I'd welcome!).

Keep up the good work...it's not all thank-less...Thanks! :o)

i too would REALLY like to see the ability to generate reports. i would love to be able to export a report of what was billed and what payments were received for a custom set time period. most other software allows for it but miserably fails in the actual invoice aspect where you guys succeed awesomely.

anyway, taxes this year were a big chore without the ability to generate reports. please make this feature a priority. thanks!
