Proforma/quotes

It would be really nice to be able to produce proforma/quotes for a defined job, which would use a different numbering scheme (especially NOT incrementing the main invoice counter), then have a way to link this proforma to the job and the final invoice. Also, some clients require payment receipts, so it could be added, generated from the invoice when the payment is marked as received (but that's probably low priority).

    Hello,

We do have plans add quotes or estimates at some point as part of a future update, although I can't give you an exact date for when that feature will appear.

I hadn't thought of the receipt idea before, but that does make sense.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I second that request. It would be really useful.
Its one thing I hadnt factored in when choosing On The Job. Hope we see this feature added soon!

I'm currently looking to move away from Billings and researching all mac invoice software along with online services like FreeAgent, Blinksale & FreshBooks.

The lack of estimate creation and payment receipts are the two major points that are holding me back from going with On The Job, after thoroughly researching everything available and checking off my requirements against each. These two additions would give the app that bit of extra scope where I could consider it a full invoicing solution that I won't need to change again in the near future.

I LOVE the interface, and how everything in it is so streamlined and effortlessly usable. It makes me really want to use the software. But it's hard to go with it when I really want to tie my estimates & invoices together (really an estimate is a premature invoice, they are basically the same thing) -- as well as be able to instantly send off a thank you the client on payment (just passing an email template to mail when the invoice is marked as paid would suffice).

While I'm here -- a few other suggestions.

    1) Option to pass an email template to mail on invoice creation, along with the PDF.

    2) PLEASE: give an option to display current time next to the menu bar timer. This little time display constantly re-orientates me/allows me to adjust my workflow when timing from Billings. I know you can currently see the time on click, but it just doesn't have the same effect.

    Cheers,

    Ross

After using the app day-to-day I have to take back point 2) above. I've actually come to prefer how the timer is discreet. I thought I used the visible menubar timer in Billings well but now realise it's better not to be focusing on the clock and just get on with the work, check how long it took once it's done!

Got all my old invoices in and switching over to OnTheJob. Can't believe I missed it when originally looking through mac invoice software, it's now once of my favourite pieces of mac software. Such a perfect example of a good mac interface. I do think the addition of "proper" estimate functionality (I notice one of the invoice templates is headed "quote", implying you can set up separate jobs/invoices for estimates) would be brilliant -- better than anything else I can think could be added to the app.

    Ross,

Thanks for the follow up - very interesting. The thought was to keep the menu bar item as minimal as possible so as not to be distracting. Perhaps having an option to display the time would be a good idea though.

Thanks again for all of the feedback.

Yeah, an option to have it display would still be a good thing in my opinion. I actually took for granted there'd be a checkbox in prefs to display the time in menubar, even knowing the app is quite minimal in options. I do see how it's a design decision now though, after using it and appreciating the way is doesn't distract.

Can I chime in here with a "please, pretty please" for Ross' option 1 request above? I am searching for time tracking and invoicing software to replace my current combo of iBiz and Quickbooks (in other words, meh + ugh :). One of the few things I actually like about Quickbooks is the combo of an email template that will stick a nice canned message at the top, customized with the client's name, and the batch send where you queue up all your invoices and then send them with one click. Of course they can do that because they control the mail server, but you could do it too for those of us who are tech savvy enough to fill in a form with info on our SMTP server.

So far the only Mac program I've found that does this is GrandTotal, but it doesn't track time and I don't care for its companion TimeLog. I really want an integrated solution this time, but having to paste a friendly message into every email is going to drive me nuts!

    Thanks for listening. :)

Having the ability to do estimates would make choosing On The Job a no-brainer for me. I hope that comes soon!
