How do I charge by retainer?

I need to generate an invoice that includes a bundle of hours for a set amount of $ - showing the fixed amount and the number of timed hours, and be able to add line items to charge or comp for overages.

How do I do this?

    Hi Jennifer,

    I'm not sure if I completely understand what you need to do, but I'll do my best to answer.

    You can add a line item for hours and manually enter as many hours as you like. To do so, just select "New Job Item" from the File menu, enter a title for the job, then double-click on the hours of the item and enter the number of hours you need. The rate applied will be the one you have set up for the Client, which you can override in the item by entering a value in the Custom Hourly Rate box in the dark settings area at the bottom of the window.

    To add fixed cost items (either positive or negative), add a job item as before, then change the Item Type of the item to Fixed Cost. You can then enter the dollar amount you want to add or subtract from the job directly.
